The following information on contraindications is provided for your benefit. The use of Infrared Sauna, Salt Sauna, or Thermal Massage Bed as creating a cure for, or treatment of, any disease is neither implied nor should be inferred.


Drinking an electrolyte-replacing water or a sports drink is recommended before and after each sauna session. In general, hydration is key for optimal body function, recovery, and removal of food waste and toxins. The minerals in electrolyte-replacing beverages help to quickly replenish your system after sweating for more favorable functioning.

We recommend that you consult your physician or trusted healthcare provider prior to using the infrared sauna or salt sauna if any of the below conditions apply to you.

MENSTRUATION – Heating of the low back area of women during the menstrual period may temporarily increase menstrual flow. This should not preclude infrared sauna use.

PREGNANCY – Consult a physician or trusted healthcare provider, but, generally, sauna should be avoided if you are pregnant.

CHILDREN – The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands, and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. When using sauna with a child, we recommend using lower temperatures and for no more than 1 minute per year of age of the child.

ELDERLY – The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature. If elderly, we recommend you first consult your trusted healthcare provider before using the sauna, and possibly using lower temperatures and/or shorter periods of time in the sauna.

MEDICATIONS – Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their personal physician or trusted healthcare provider since some medications may induce drowsiness, while others may affect heart rate, blood pressure and circulation. Diuretics, barbiturates and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics, such as Amitriptyline, may inhibit sweating and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke. Some over-the-counter drugs, such as antihistamines, may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stress.

ALCOHOL & DRUG USE / ABUSE – Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “sweat out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment; therefore, he/she may not realize when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress. The use of alcohol, drugs or medications prior to a sauna session may lead to serious effects and/or unconsciousness.

CARDIOVASCULAR ISSUES, OBESITY OR DIABETES – Individuals suffering from obesity or with a medical history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems or diabetes should consult a physician prior to use. Heat stress increases cardiac output and blood flow in an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body temperature. Individuals suffering from severe hypertension or cardiac insufficiency should avoid use of sauna.

CHRONIC CONDITIONS / DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH REDUCED ABILITY TO SWEAT OR PERSPIRE – Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors, and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating. Consult a physician or trusted healthcare provider before use of the sauna.

CONTAGIOUS OR MALIGNANT DISEASES – Individuals suffering from any contagious or malignant disease should avoid use of saunas.

CHRONIC RESPIRATORY CONDITIONS / DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH IMPAIRED RESPIRATORY ABILITY – Acute stages of respiratory diseases, respiratory system cancers, chronic obstructive lung disorders, tuberculosis and other similar respiratory diseases are conditions that are associated with severe impaired respiratory function. The use of sauna should be avoided by anyone experiencing these conditions.

HEMOPHILIACS / INDIVIDUALS PRONE TO BLEEDING – The use of sauna should be avoided by anyone who is predisposed to excessive bleeding, has an open wound, or is spitting up blood.

FEVER & INSENSITIVITY TO HEAT – Individuals with insensitivity to heat or who have a fever should not use the sauna until the fever subsides.

JOINT INJURY – Recent (acute) joint injury should not be heated for the first 48 hours or until the swollen symptoms subside. Joints that are chronically hot and swollen may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind.

IMPLANTS – Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by the infrared sauna. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician or trusted healthcare provider prior to use if you have any concerns.

PACEMAKERS / DEFIBRILLATORS – The magnets used to assemble our saunas can interrupt the pacing and inhibit the output of pacemakers. Please discuss with your physician or trusted healthcare provider the possible risks this may cause.

In the rare event that you experience pain or discomfort, immediately discontinue sauna use.

People of most any age are welcome to experience the benefits of the thermal massage bed. Like most other highly developed fitness techniques, thermal massage focuses on the core of the body. It is very common to feel some pressure and even mild soreness following the first few sessions of thermal massage. The tailbone, especially, may feel tender, inflamed or even bruised. This is normal and will dissipate in a short time, especially with repeated use of the thermal massage bed.

Because thermal massage is a detoxifying treatment we strongly encourage you to drink plenty of water to ensure that all the toxins released during your session are flushed from the body.

We recommend that you consult with your physician or trusted healthcare provider prior to using the thermal massage bed if any of the following situations apply to you.

PREGNANCY – You should avoid using the thermal massage bed system if you are pregnant.

PACEMAKER – You should avoid using the thermal massage bed system if you have a pacemaker.

OSTEOPOROSIS AND SPINAL RODS, PINS, OR IMPLANTS- If you have severe osteoporosis or steel spinal rods/pins, you should consult with a physician or other trusted healthcare provider to determine if use of the thermal massage bed system is appropriate for your condition.
